Repression

Genre - The drama genre has many sub genres

- Expect tragic events from dramas

- Realistic in film views but exaggerated for entertainment

- In terms of editing the cuts are normally fast paced, adding to the dramatic mood being created

- Camera shots include a lot of close ups to focus on people's expressions

- Normally have a female victim and male antagonist

- Lighting and clothing normally limited to darker colours creating mystery

 

Institution - Film maker: Michael Thomas' crew at the University of Alabama. Made as part of the campus movie fest (the world largest sudent film festival). They distributed it over various social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, but also on the campus website

 

Audience - Target audience is typically teenagers and adults. The audience for this film also included over film makers as a source of inspiration. The audience is people like watching drama/action films, people that may not have much free time but enjoy watching films, it was also for friends and families of the students and actors in the film and other social networkers.

 

Narrative â€“ In a drama there is normally a clear middle and end with a climax

Main plot: When Matthew Foster returns home and has his wife kidnapped before his very eyes, he must track her down, however the person that took her is someone he thought he would never see again and who he has had previous dealings with, the film ends with the kidnapper hearing voices in his head and proceeding to shoot himself

 

Camera Angles and Shots - Handheld shakey cam, close ups for expressions, wide shots to show locations, over the shoulder shot showing the boyfriend, close up of guys wrists and lips, picture close up

 

Editing – Blurred at times, fast pased cuts in car, fast cuts at the end with antagonist's face

 

Sound - Eerie music runs through the opening, action music playing in the background when the protagonist is leaving the house, music stops during phone call and frequent diegetic sounds through dialogue

 

Mise-en-scene - Dull lighting, clothing dark for antagonist, gun used as a prop, picture at the beginning is a clue, half shadowed face of antagonist
